Gregory Newell asked:

How to learn Spanish? As I am sure you know learning a foreign language is not an easy task unless you are one of those people with an “ear for language”, something I never really understood. There are many available options. The first that comes to mind is obviously taking course in your high school, college, or other educational institution. This is a convenient and trusted way to learn, and one that has been utilized for years. However, given that most of the people that take a language in high school or college never actually become bilingual, the merits of this method seem to be suspect.

As with anything else, when deciding how you want to learn Spanish, the internet is as good a place to start as any. If you look on the internet you will find a wealth of options available to you. There are a very large amount of study systems being sold, some at reasonable prices and others for a small fortune. There are also programs for placement in Spanish speaking countries that allow you to totally immerse yourself in the language. Then there are even websites with free exercises and drills that will help you get started.

Of course everyone’s system claims to be the best and only way to truly master the language. During my research I came across no less than three study systems all claiming to be in use by varying branches of the US government and I am sure that doesn’t even scratch the surface of the number of products making such claims. When you are making your decision regarding how to learn Spanish do your research and take into account the pros and cons of each method and pick what is best for you. Personally, I enjoy the free online exercises, but then again I am just out of college and have no money. However you decide to go about it, learning will not be easy.

Mike Darwin asked:

What are the best ways to learn Spanish? If you live in Spain or in countries that use Spanish as their dialect, you will find that it will benefit you to learn the language. It is common to know a few words and phrases to help get you around but this will really limit you on a lot of things if there is a language barrier in between. You cannot expect the people to learn English, so it is best that you take the initiative to learn their language and look for ways to know it.

Bear in mind that there will be no best solution to learning a language. This really has to do with the time you have, your aptitude, and determination. One of these methods that we will lay out for you may work best, or a combination of one or all of them may suit you better.

You really have a lot of options to acquire knowledge of learning the language. One is that you can take lessons from a private tutor; this may be an effective solution for learning how to converse and that if you have immediate questions these can be addressed immediately. The drawback is that you have to commit a specific amount of time on a regular basis for you to get classes. You also have the option to have home study. Some opt to choose formal schooling so that it will force discipline and progress for achievement. Others are really dependent on time schedule, so they get tutorship at a specific place or at home.

There are also language exchanges through magazines or over the Internet. These practice more on conversations and must be followed with a book as a guide. This may be a weaker form of learning but it really depends on the degree you wish to achieve.

If you are in Spain, the local government helps by offering language learning for free. Try to check with each local city government so they can provide information on where to avail of these local language courses.

After learning, you sure would like to give it a test run with some friends. This will be a perfect opportunity to address some weak flows with inflection and grammar, and improve your ability to converse. This will also boost your confidence in learning a new language.

As final note, it is also more proper and polite to speak the local dialect. The locals will look up to you for this and respect you in a different way if you speak their language. So it is really advantageous to look for ways to learn Spanish if you plan to stay in that area longer.

Discover how you can learn Spanish from home at this “Learn Spanish Language Software” site

Li Ming Wong asked:

Some companies hire tutors for certain employees so they can learn Spanish for business dealings. You might also hire a tutor to get personal instruction. If you’re lucky enough to be able to get a one-on-one tutor to learn Spanish with, you should be able to progress quickly. This is even truer if you know how to take full advantage of your tutor’s knowledge.

When you first sit down with your tutor, before you begin to learn Spanish, ask about his/her background. Ask questions about where they grew up, where they went to school, where they have worked, and especially, what language they spoke in all of these situations.

Make sure the tutor you have selected has something to teach you. Think of it this way. You can learn something from anyone, but no one can teach you everything. Learn Spanish with someone who can come as close as possible.

Once you get a feel for where your tutor’s talents lie, you will be able to glean from their wisdom all they have to offer you. If the tutor has lived in a country that interests you, you will have a great resource to learn Spanish in that dialect. You can also learn about the culture of that country.

If the tutor has worked in a field that is similar to yours, that is helpful. It means that they will know technical words that you deal with every day. It also gives you something in common to talk about as you learn Spanish.

Show up on time to your tutoring sessions. If the tutoring takes place in your home, be there and ready for your lesson. Don’t make the tutor wait for you to finish watching a television program before you will begin to learn Spanish, for example. Besides that, you should offer a soda or coffee, since all the talking can dry out the mouth.

When you’re working with a tutor to learn Spanish, one advantage you have is that you can ask all the questions you want. Use this knowledge to the maximum. When you’re having your tutoring sessions, ask every question that pops into your mind.

Don’t let the questions end with the lessons, either. Keep jotting down your questions in between lessons so that they can be answered when you meet again. When you get the answers, write them down or record them. This kind of interaction makes you more involved and enthusiastic about your quest to learn Spanish.

After you’ve learned the basics with your tutor, make a list of things you need or would like to learn. If you work in a field with a lot of technical jargon or specialized tools, you can make a list of these words you need to know. Your tutor will help you learn Spanish names for the items on your list.

The right tutor can fulfill your need to learn Spanish with ease. Treat your tutor in a respectful way and you can expect to develop a strong working relationship. If you have a choice, opting to learn Spanish with a tutor is a wise move.

Brian Cliette asked:

When there is a will there is a way! This is a very old and precious saying, which truly says that if you want to do something, you can do it. Similarly, if you want to learn Spanish, you would be able to find a good number of methods to do so. Some of the most popular and easy to take up are as follows:

1.	Regular language school classes – in this method you find out a good language school in your neighborhood and register for the course you need – basic, medium or advanced. In case such a school is not available in your neighborhood, you would need to consider moving closer to where you would find such a good school. The advantage of having to learn through a regular school is that this is a very systematic method of learning, especially good for people who need everything neatly scheduled in watertight compartments.

2.	Part-time or evening classes – this method is very similar to the above, but while the regular classes have more classes covered per day since these are regular classes, while the part-time classes cover less per day and hence the course would take longer to complete. Also, for these type of classes, you would definitely need to have the school in close vicinity either to your working place or home, to cut down in commuting hours and also be safe. It would not to have to drive every night late from your Spanish classes.

3.	Online classes – there is another type of course that is becoming very popular with every day that passes. This is the online course. This is the best for people who have a job and do cannot commute any more to attend the language classes. The online course usually offers audio-visual material and a personal online tutor, who could be reached at a particular time. You would have the choice to appear for the exams (which would be held at a specific time) in the school or a branch of the school close to the place you live.

4.	Books – though learning through books has becoming somewhat obsolete with the presence of the computer, this method is still holding its ground for some die-hard fans. Books are indeed a great source of knowledge and there are some exceptionally well deigned bi-lingual books that can help learning the language as good as any other method. These books most often come accompanied by audio-cassettes or CD-ROMs, which provide the phonetics.

5.	Audio programs – these are one of the best ways to learn since this would give you both written and pronounced word and phrases and help you at every step. These audio programs can be used through a regular walkman or portable CD player. You can also tune is to your favorite podcasts and learn Spanish from experts through these broadcasts.

Gregory Newell asked:

What are the first words learned when living in a foreign country? Well I can tell you when I started to learn Spanish words the first ones I picked up and began to use were the swear words. Why is that? Why do we focus on the negative aspects of a language first? The first thing we want to be able to do is yell at people and express our displeasure eloquently. Why do we not instead ask how to say something is amazing, or delicious, or fabulous? So to learn these important Spanish words the first thing we do when we get of the plane is make friends and ask them how to swear.

Well what about learning other Spanish words? Reading is a good way. Pick up the local newspaper and translate all the words you don’t know. This takes a long time and can be frustrating but is very effective. I have also found it helps to write down the words you learn to get a visual of them as you memorize them. It is a lot easier to remember a word when you know how it is spelled. You can figure out the pronunciation and remember it better than simply listening to your friend with the very strong Spanish accent say it and trying to imitate.

Unfortunately sometimes it seems like the more words you learn the more you don’t know. I constantly learn new Spanish words and think I can now say what I want until I try to formulate a sentence and realize there are 5 other words I need. It is a never-ending uphill battle to learn all I need.

Gregory Newell asked:

How fast is it possible to learn a foreign language? You see products that claim to teach you to speak in weeks or even days. I am trying to learn Spanish fast, but as with any other language it is a long and tiring process that take months and even years to become proficient. It is possible to learn some Spanish very fast, but you will find that will mostly be swear words and slang terms that wont really get you anywhere when it comes to actual conversation.

Sometimes I have dreams with a few of the Spanish words I know in them but they unfortunately normally revolve around how dumb I am and how I don’t know any other words. Of course some people are able to learn Spanish very fast, or any other language for that matter, simply because they have what is frequently called an “ear or languages”. I wish I was one of those people.

Not matter how well you learn languages I have to say that I agree with the school of though that says the best way is through immersion. Living in a country that speaks the language is by far the best way to truly learn a language. You can also read books, listen to tapes, and use interactive software. Or there is another more novel method I found that involves learning through music. While this sounds interesting and kind of fun I have to say the words used in the lyrics to the Latin songs I have encountered here are not the words I would want to be learning.

To truly learn Spanish fast and well a nice combination of all the above mentioned methods would be nice. To live in the country, listen to tapes and music, read books, use software, and speak nothing but the language would be ideal and probably very successful. Unfortunately no one really has the time this would entail so we must instead settle for a long, drawn out, frustrating process.

Natalia Picado asked:

We are all aware about the reasons for learning Spanish. Although learning Spanish is becoming a necessity, there are many ways that this can be accomplished. You will need to choose which way best suits your goals. Here is a little information on each method:

How to learn Spanish at your home

1. Online help to learn Spanish: Learning Spanish online is perhaps the best way to learn the intricacies of the language. One can take online Spanish lessons with the help of an online Spanish tutor or a live Spanish tutor online, according to one’s preference. The training can be keyed in, or can be oral, based on whether one has a microphone or not. The best part of learning Spanish online is the fact that one can learn from within the luxury of his home and proceed as he chooses.

2. Books and libraries, the tested method: Books are the tested and proven method for amassing knowledge. Today’s well developed libraries with books and audio and video cassettes are sure to have enough material to provide you with necessary lessons to learn Spanish. Of course, no one can keep library material indefinitely at home but you can keep on renewing the material and learn only as fast or as slow as you need to.

3. Correspondence School – This is a school where you take classes at home and mail in your homework. This is another method of learning at home and learning at your own pace. The downsides to this method include the lack of real-time interaction, lack of live practice, and waiting for the mail to bring your grades as well as your next assignment.

4. From a live instructor: A live Spanish tutor can teach the language at the student’s residence. This method can provide quality training since the teacher can correct homework and give attention even to accent. But there is a dearth of such home instructors and home classes cost quite a lot.

5. Special Interest College Courses ? Often, most of the foreign languages are offered for a small fee at the local colleges as a special interest. This might be one to two nights a week for approximately two hours. You do have to go to the local college, but you still can do a great percentage of the training at home.

6. DVD or CD/ROM: DVDs and CDs also help with taking a conversational Spanish course, in more or less the same way audio and video cassettes do. It can be played on a computer screen or television screen and affords to the learner the privilege of replaying the discs as many times as he chooses, to suit his ability to learn. Different TV channels also air Spanish lessons meant for small children. These may come in handy for a beginner learning Spanish.

There is no shortage of means for learning Spanish. The quality and superiority of each system, for learning Spanish at home or outside, is purely based on the learner’s predilections.

Natalia Picado, an e-business counselor, works as a consultant with Learn Spanish Online which was founded in the year 2006. Lejos Learning gives complete freedom to choose their schedule and their real live private tutor to learn Spanish online.

Ankur asked:

Rocket Spanish to be the most effective and affordable course for consumers which has made learning Spanish process easy. Rocket Spanish has become a very popular Spanish course available in the market. Learning Spanish using Rocket Spanish is the best method, by far, that is available to learn Spanish. It is now possible to learn Spanish in less than 8 weeks. The best way to learn Spanish really quickly is by doing the Rocket Spanish course.

Rocket Spanish is the most commended program for learning the Spanish language online. It is a highly interactive course and more effective than hiring a private tutor for learning Spanish as it gives you the ability to choose the time of when you want to study and practice, as well the as ability to practice indefinitely until you can speak perfectly. Because of this, it has continued to teach more and more new students how to speak Spanish every single day.

Rocket Spanish is an intelligent piece of software designed specifically for the people who want to learn Spanish language in a couple of weeks. Rocket Spanish has become the largest selling software in the market today because of its value for money. It is like a gift for the people who want to learn Spanish language. There are many reasons for learning the Spanish language.

One of the hardest thing that one finds in learning a new language is to understand the spoken word. If the listener is not able to understand a spoken word, then whole of the conversation is useless because the person is not getting anything what the other one is saying. The main focus of attention of Rocket Spanish is to allow the people to understand each and every word correctly so that they don’t fall out of a conversation.

Rocket Spanish is a teaching solution that teaches the Spanish language with different media encompassing text, audio lessons, games, and graphics to help the student learn as quickly as possible. To start with, the course covers the Spanish alphabet, pronunciation practices, and beginner grammar. After achieving this, the course then covers different tenses, verb conjunctions, and the rules that govern word uses to ensure that the student ends up being able to speak Spanish in a conversational manner confidently and naturally. Rocket Spanish has a strong focus on teaching real conversational Spanish in a highly interactive format. Rocket Spanish to be the most effective and affordable course for consumers. Rocket Spanish has various components like audio, grammar, MegaVocab & MegaAudio etc. Every Component of Rocket Spanish has different purpose and it helps in learning Spanish quickly, effectively with no time constraint.

At the end, I would like to say that learning Spanish using Rocket Spanish is a lot of fun because it contains interactive audio lessons which a person can enjoy at any point of time in a day. After doing the Rocket Spanish course, one would be able to feel confident and comfortable around the Spanish speaking people.
